Answer

Like everything else in life it depends on how much you put in. On-line revenues are all about attracting and monetising traffic. With zero effort you will have a very cost effective site that gives the look of a modern well run pharmacy. You will make some money from “accidental” traffic – people who find you through search etc.

Your website enables you to make an impact instantly by giving you the tools to communicate efficiently with your customers. Once registered or uploaded to the health wallet, you can let them know about special offers or promotions, save time with repeat prescription ordering online, invite them for services and of course, promote your online shop.

With a little effort to capitalise on your existing customers by getting them registered to your site and continually reminding them of your site and it's benefits; the convenience of ordering repeats online, the great prices in the on-line store and that they can find safe medical info on any topic. You will create traffic from which you will earn revenue from e-commerce, and revenue shares from partners such as on-line diet plans, travel insurance, smoking cessation support etc. For instance, Your share of  a customer sign up for a 12 week 'on-line lose weight for your summer holiday' programme could earn you £10.

In addition you can use the site to help communicate with customers and to aid compliance which will generate more professional fees and purchase profit income. With the white label e-commerce, you receive 10% of the retail value (net of VAT) of your registered customers' purchases. (More information on e-commerce is available here )

With a little more effort there are many things you can do for free in terms of on-line marketing such as, registering with Google Local, getting the PCT and the NHS to include links to your site in their local services directories, making sure your entries in on-line directories like Thompson Local and Yell have your site link in, getting links from local GP websites and regularly adding some fresh content which could be in the form of regularly updating a frequently asked health questions section or your pharmacy news. This will help you do better in google searches, particularly local searches which will help you win customers from less forward thinking local pharmacies and from faceless national high street chains.

If your site or sites are attracting lots of traffic then there will also be a share of the advertising revenue too. The threshold for this is 20,000 page views per month which (on the average number of page views per visit of approx 4) means around 5000 visits per month. Your share will be 30% and grow from there.

We will be introducing a programme at a later date where you can contribute to a Google pay per click search advertising service.
